PERI Foundation and the Russian State Library launched the pilot project in restoring the ancient Jewish manuscripts from the Ginsburg Collection

The Russian State Library, the National Library of Israel and the PERI Charitable Foundation cooperation in digitizing of the unique collection of Baron Ginsburg – the second largest collection of the ancient Jewish literature – has been successfully developing. Restoration of the first ten manuscripts of the collection will start concurrently with digitizing within the scope of the project.

Collaboration to be continued - the project three-party meeting was held in Moscow

The project three- party meeting was held on July 10 th at the Pashkov House. Among the project participants are the Russian State Library, the National Library of Israel and the PERI Foundation. The project of improvement of the historical part of Derbent was among winners of the competition of the Ministry of construction industry of the Russian Federation

On May 29 the Government of the Moscow region announced the winning projects of the All-Russian competition of small cities and historical settlements, held according to the decision of the President of the country. From nearly 450 applications the contest committee had selected 198 works, and the best 80 of them received well-deserved rewards and subsidies for implementation of the projects. Among winners of the competition in the Historical Settlements category was the project of improvement of the historical part of Derbent prepared with the assistance of Peri Foundation.

From May 24 to May 26 the International economic forum took place in St. Petersburg, for the last twenty years being the leading world platform for communication of representatives of the business community and discussion of the key economic problems facing Russia, emerging markets, and the world in general. The large-scale inclusion of the social agenda in the program of the Forum and the launch of the Foundation's social platform Roskongress became an important innovation of SPIEF-2018. Peri Foundation and the Russian State Library have transferred the digitized Easter Aggadah to the National library of Israel

In honour of the approaching Passover (Pesach) Peri Foundation and the Russian State Library have presented to the National library of Israel the digitized copy of the Passover Aggadah dated 1749 from the collection of barons Ginsburg. Passover Aggadah is a collection of the prayers, benedictions, interpretations of the Bible and liturgical works directly or indirectly connected with the subject of the Exodus from Egypt and the Pesach ritual.

The joint project of Peri Foundation and the Institute of history, archaeology and ethnography of the Dagestan scientific centre of RAS turned one year old

At the beginning of 2017 within the international program for preservation of cultural heritage Ziyavudin Magomedov's Peri Foundation started digitization of the archive of Oriental manuscripts of the Institute of history, archaeology and ethnography of the Dagestan scientific centre of RAS. For this project, by request of the foundation, a unique large-format scanner was specially developed and delivered to Dagestan. A hi-tech server capable to store 75 terabytes of digitized books was acquired for storage, processing, and cataloguing. For comparison, this volume is equal to 16,000 DVDs or 18.5 million high-quality photos.

On March 5, with the assistance of Peri Foundation, the XIV conference of the Vedomosti newspaper dedicated to charity in Russia took place. This conference is traditionally the largest specialized platform for interaction of professional community and discussion of questions of development of the non-commercial sector with еру representatives of state structures and socially-oriented business. The PERI Foundation took part in the Russian Investment Forum

The Russian Investment Forum, a traditional platform for presenting Russia’s investment and economic potential, was held on February 15th and 16th in Sochi. Peri Foundation opens an exhibition at Victoria and Albert Museum in London

On December 8, 2017 Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London opened the exhibition "The words of stones. Experience of reading and translation of the heritage of Kala-Koreysh", organized by Peri Foundation. The exhibition is dedicated to one of the first Muslim settlements in the territory of Russia and the whole of southeast Europe. Kala-Koreysh, high in the mountains of Dagestan, once was the capital of the belligerent khanate and leads its history from the pre-Islamic times. Governors from the 12th to the 19th century are buried in its cemetery, which became a place of pilgrimage.

Peri Foundation digitizes the greatest collection of Judaic manuscripts in the world

An agreement of historical importance was signed in Jerusalem on November 7, 2017 between the National library of Israel, the Russian state library and Ziyavudin Magomedov Charitable foundation Peri. This agreement will define the future of the collection of barons Ginsburg, the second-largest assembly of Hebrew literature in the world. Currently the collection is stored in the Department of manuscripts of the Russian state library. Thanks to support of Peri Foundation 2,000 manuscripts and thousands of books of this collection will be digitized, making these outstanding literary works available online for libraries, and for the general public.

PERI Foundation is making digital copies of the collection of the P. S. Gamzatova Dagestan Museum of Fine Art

In 2017 the P. S. Gamzatova Dagestan Museum of Fine Art won a competition for a grant from the Head of the Republic of Dagestan. As part of that grant, high-resolution digital copies of some 400 pieces in the museum’s collection are to be made. The PERI Foundation has supported the museum’s digital copying project and, as a partner in it, has offered the cultural institution its high-resolution equipment.

A Dagestani student will study in Silicon Valley

On August 18th Sagitav Sagitov, a young programmer from Makhachkala, set off to study in the San Francisco Bay area’s Silicon Valley. Sagitav was offered the chance to intern in the USA after his 2D game called Cero took first place in the PERI Innovation Challenge, a competition for promising projects. The young programmer will study for a month in San Francisco at Beyond Games, one of the leading computer game companies in Silicon Valley.

A director of the PERI Foundation’s operations in Dagestan has been appointed

The ZIyavudin Magomedov PERI Charitable Foundation has announced the appointment of Zaur Omarov as director of the Foundation’s operations in Dagestan. Zaur Omarov from 2014 to 2017 was director of the Uspekh National Centre for Youth Activities of the Ministry of Labour and Social Development of the Republic of Dagestan. Before that he had worked as an advisor to the Ministry of Labour and Social Development of the RD and as director of the Informational-Analytical Centre of the Committee of Youth Affairs of the RD.

The Urbanfest architectural festival in Derbent has come to a close

The Urbanfest architectural festival in Derbent, the first in the city’s history devoted to new ways and methods for urban development, had been organized by the Ziyavudin Magomedov PERI Charitable Foundation, the Laboratory of the MARCH Moscow Architecture School, and the Derbent Municipal District administration. The purpose of the festival was to acquaint the city’s residents with creative technologies that would lend themselves to better arranging its territory and providing space for social recreation.

Digital copying of the unique Dionysius frescoes in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin in Ferapontovo has been completed

The international expedition wrapped up its project to make digital copies of the unique paintings by Dionysius in the main church of the former Ferapontovo monastery in Vologda oblast, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. From mid-May through late June, 300 early frescoes, more than 600 square metres of paintings done by Dionysius and his sons, were copied digitally using the latest technology and equipment.

The results of the Changing Museums in a Changing World grant competition of the Vladimir Potanin Charitable Foundation were made public on April 20th. One of the winners in the Museum and the Local Community category was the Tsarskaya Polyana. The Spring School for Researchers will be conducted at the Peter the Great Museum in Derbent

The PERI Foundation, the Laboratory of the MARCH Moscow Architecture School, and the Derbent Municipal District administration have announced the start of their Spring School for Researchers project, which will be offered in a format that is completely new to Dagestan. As part of its international Cultural Heritage 2.0 programme, the Ziyavudin Magomedov PERI Foundation is preparing to make digital copies of the archive of Eastern manuscripts at the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Dagestan Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Science. About 50,000 Eastern manuscripts drawn from the Institute’s archive, as well as from private collections, are to be copied electronically.

The PERI Foundation announced the results of the competition for young photographers from Belozersk. The winners are Aleksandra Smirnova from Kadui in Vologoda oblast and Fyodor Komlev from Vologda. They have been selected to be trained for the expedition to make digital images of the Dionysius frescoes in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin in Ferapontovo.
