The project of improvement of the historical part of Derbent was among winners of the competition of the Ministry of construction industry of the Russian Federation

On May 29 the Government of the Moscow region announced the winning projects of the All-Russian competition of small cities and historical settlements, held according to the decision of the President of the country. From nearly 450 applications the contest committee had selected 198 works, and the best 80 of them received well-deserved rewards and subsidies for implementation of the projects. Among winners of the competition in the Historical Settlements category was the project of improvement of the historical part of Derbent prepared with the assistance of Peri Foundation.

Back in April, 2018 architects, the city administration of Derbent and Peter the Great's House in Derbent, with assistance of Peri Foundation, developed the application project within the workshop organized by the MARSH lab of the Moscow school of architecture. The project focused on the inhabited historical part of the city (Magaly) adjoining the fortress, which kept the historical planning of medieval streets and a significant amount of monuments, the most ancient of which goes back to the 8th century. The aim of the project is to turn Magaly into the main tourist attraction in Dagestan.
