World football stars played a benefit match in Moscow

On March 26th at Lokomotiv Stadium, the Kick Off for Good Moscow 2016 benefit match Football Stars and Russian Children was held with master classes for children in orphanages from various regions of the country.  The Ziyavudin Magomedov PERI Charitable Foundation arranged the match as part of its Kick Off for Good initiative which features major football events to fund charitable projects and call attention to social problems.  One of the creators of this initiative is football player and manager Clarence Seedorf.  The proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorship contributions for the match will be used for educational projects for orphans and also to construct modern sports facilities for orphanages.

The match was between Team Russia and Team Worldwide.

Among those playing for Team Worldwide were Clarence Seedorf, four-time winner of the Champions League; Javier Zanetti, legendary captain of the Argentine national team and of Inter Milan; David Trezeguet, who as part of the French national team won championships in both the World Cup and the European Football Championship; and Brazilian striker Rivaldo who played for Barcelona.

Team Russia fielded, among others, Alexander Mostovoi, who won fame as a member of the Spanish team Celta; Dmitri Alenichev, head coach of Spartak Moscow who was victorious in the Champions League; Andrey Tikhonov, who was a legendary footballer for Spartak Moscow and frequent Russian champion; and Alexey Smertin, who captained the Russian national team for many years and played with great success for clubs in both France and England.

On the day of the match the football stars offered master classes in the game to students at the Step Up Orphan Opprtunity Centre (Moscow), School and Orphanage No. 4 for orphans and children not in the custody of their parents (Makhachkala), and Home for Children No. 3 (Taganrog).  More than 60 children and teenagers took part in the master classes.

Polina Filippova, Executive Director of the PERI Charitable Foundation commented:  “A football match and master classes of this quality make for a very special day.  However, our task goes beyond arranging special days for children and teenagers who are deprived of their parents.  We hope that love of sports and football will help to enhance their social skills, make them responsible and independent, and enable them to find their way in life.  We are extremely grateful that Russian and worldwide football stars agreed to take part in our benefit event.  All the proceeds from the match will be applied to projects that contribute to a good educati
